Welcome to Our Home Site

Welcome to our home site! Come on in and do a little exploring. We have put this site together for a couple of reasons. One - to display the projects that we are working on or have done around the house. And two - to communicate with friends and family the goings-on with our family. This site resides on our home based web server currently running Windows Server 2003 Apache HTTP Server software, PHP5, and Filezilla FTP Server.  PHP coding let's you do a variety of things that you can't do with standard HTML.  I like it because it helps to  blend HTML with VB so well. I'm also playing with some Linux software (Kubuntu) trying to see the advantages and disadvantages of both systems.

But, for now I'll stick with Windows until I'm confident enough to make the switch. Running our own web server allows us total freedom to change software, configuration, or content on the site.  It also allows me to experiment with different coding languages without worries of support from other servers.  In other words, it's all mine!

We bought this house in October of 2004 after living in our previous house for 17 years. We wanted a house that had a little bit more property than most houses and one that was in a quiet neighborhood.  This house fit the bill.  It sits on .29 acres - plenty of room to give our four dogs a good size dog-run (approx. 12 x 65)and situated in an established Carmichael neighborhood.  The majority of people in the area are long time owners and very friendly.  Most days, standing out in the yard is silent - almost spooky quiet.  Structurally, the house was fine. It did need some cosmetic work, though. So far we've swapped out the old single pane windows for dual panes, covered the 3 different colors it was painted, and did a lot of yard work. You can check out of things we've done in the galleries. We still have a bit more work before I can rest.
